Ok, so, now let's talk about the old Continent ;-)
Europe is currently living a... golden era: the inflation is terrible (as it is in 99% of the world's countries) and the economic recession is supposed coming to an end in four years. It is not really reassuring to learn such things and totally at odds with the fact that the consumer society compels us to buy more, wanting more, consume more.
France has the worst president it ever had. Unfortunately, he was the only one who could be elected as the other major contenders were Zeros or perceived to be dangerous, such as Jean-Marie Le Pen). But Sarkozy sold his campaign very well by saying "I'll act" and not "I think..." I don't talk about the new 1st lady whom nobody knows nothing of the plastic as she posed nude for photos while ago.
This country; which is still a Republic, doesn't have a single person able to achieve the responsibilities of a President any more. Chirac was - in my opinion - the last one.
So, as a monarchist, I'd say that France is probably ready to become a constitutional monarchy again; which is approximately the same thing than a Republic - like in my country: the King is representative, nothing else (fortunately for us: see his sons! Don't take me bad: I love King Albert II!)
And if I were French, I would vote for the Duke of Vendôme who would be called "Henri VI", branch of Orleans. Whether his ancestor, Philippe II voted for the death of Louis XVI, the Regent ruled France during the minority of Louis XV with a lot of talent.
On the other hand, attention should be given to abolishing the Salic law, which forbids women to reign.
Well, I'm dreaming: maybe for the next elections there will be a good candidate;-)
While I'm generally a legitimist, regarding French monarchy, I go for the Orleanists. Why? Because of the following:
Spain has a "Prince" (Louis de Bourbon) that would like to become the new King of France (which is still a Republic!). The Duke of Anjou, grandson of Louis XIV became King of Spain at the end of the Spanish Succession War under the condition that himself and all his descendants renounce to the crown of France, waiver signed during the treaties of Utrecht (1713) by Philippe VI of Spain, grandson of Louis XIV. This famous prince is one of his descendants.
And that is precisely what Louis de Bourbon, duke of Anjou (uh! isn't it a French title? Why a Spanish owns it? Oh yes, dual nationality...) would like to do!
But in the gray monarchic stories, there's a small place all blue and gold, the colors of lily of France: according to various scientific expertise, Louis XVII's heart joined the remains of his parents, Louis XVI and Maria-Antonia at the royal crypt of Saint-Denis. This poor little prince may finally rest in peace and the Naundorf can go play to the highway.
Some representatives of European countries are threatening not to attend the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Beijing while others claim they will be there... How can we get to convince the authorities of a country when an entire continent is unable to reach agreement? On the other hand, lots of Eastern Europe countries joined the EEC only in a financial goal (benefits of our not so "rich" countries) because these countries appear to want to disassociate themselves from the EEC, never agree with European decisions, don't respect the European constitution... which is not the aim.
Last but not least, Belgium. Our country pointed out once again by a "Belgian joke": our new Minister of Justice decided to cancel some criminal laws of the former Minister of Justice...
It was necessary because this mad person decided, among other things, that minors would no longer be tried for acts as long as these acts, if commited by an adult would not result in at least 5 years' imprisonment (and therefore, minors should kill to be tried; which resulted in an incredible rise in crime ) and also "opened the doors of our prisons"!
But... our government would have done better to withdraw this dangerous person from such a ministry during at the moment she proved that she was mad instead of making new laws afterwards. Some people would still be alive now!Well, that's it for today.I'm gonna read Martha Grime's Richard Jury and Melrose Plant adventures ;-)
